Practice Area Civil Trial Attorney
David Davis joined Turley Swan Childers Childers & Torrens, P.C. in 1997, and is a partner.
He is probably best described as an old-fashioned trial attorney. At a time when court backlogs have made it difficult to get a case before a jury, he has managed to try cases to a jury verdict over 50 times in the last 12 years. His trials have ranged from wrongful deaths to brain injuries, and from multiple spinal surgeries to low impact, soft tissue claims with extensive chiropractic or physical therapy treatment.
Rural Arizona Trial Attorney
David has particular experience in trying cases in outlying jurisdictions. He has tried cases before juries in Tucson, Yuma, Globe, Payson, Bullhead City, and Safford. These experiences include multi-week trials in both federal court and state court.
In addition to the main office in Phoenix, he now has a satellite office located centrally in Pine, Arizona. It is approximately an hour's drive from Flagstaff, Prescott, Globe, Sedona, Cottonwood and Camp Verde.
At his current rate, David expects to amass 150 jury trials before he retires. He would gladly consider defense of litigation in Gila County (Globe and Payson), Coconino County (Flagstaff), Yavapai County (Prescott, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Sedona), Yuma County (Yuma), Pima County (Tucson), Graham County (Safford), Pinal County (Florence, Casa Grande), Navajo County (Show Low) and Mohave (Kingman, Lake Havasu, Bullhead). Very few of these outlying counties contain local attorneys who have experience in defending civil litigation claims.
ADR Attorney
He has also briefed and argued cases for the Arizona Court of Appeals. He has worked extensively with judges in Maricopa County, Pima County (Tucson) and Yuma County to establish procedures and jury instructions for short one day trials.
Personal injury Attorney
Most of his injury trials have focused on whether or not spinal surgery, carpal tunnel surgery, shoulder surgery or knee surgery was necessary or causally related to an accident. He has also litigates a wide variety of other torts: dog bite, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional stress, malicious prosecution, privacy, sexual assault, wrongful termination and construction defect. Other cases have focused upon the necessity and reasonableness of extensive physical therapy treatment and chiropractic treatment.
Insurance Background and Construction Experience
His pre-law school experience also aides his ability to handle civil litigation. He was a nationally ranked debater in both high school and college. After college but before law school he worked for three years as a claims adjuster for a large insurance company. In that position he investigated and resolved both injury claims and property damage claims. Before that he was a carpenter.
It helps when handling a construction dispute that the attorney himself has pounded a few nails during his lifetime. It is invaluable when working with an insurance representative to understand the claims process and the pressures of claims handling.
